The 1970s - diversification - new developments
The projects initiated in the 1970s allowed us to develop non-toxic rubber blends for contact with food products. The manufacture of these products demanded new hygiene conditions, standards, certifications, quality requirements, etc., which we incorporated.
This was the basis on which the absolutely indispensable processes of today were introduced: quality, environmental, health and safety management on the job.
Thus, we are able to meet the needs of companies such as Mahou, Sadrim, Alugasa for products such as olive pitters, special seals for beer and soft-drink dispensers, coatings for barrels, corner pieces for fish containers, etc.
MARESA and PETACO, manufacturers of popular pinball machines, were also major customers during the company's diversification. The requirements for these kinds of machines gave us the opportunity to work with colour in designing rubber parts.
Our entry into the lift industry gave us the opportunity to collaborate with some of the most important companies in the world, companies with whom we continue to develop projects today. Zardoya-Otis remains one of our first-rate technology partners.
Since then, the rubber-metal parts manufactured by MGN have become essential for attaining the levels of comfort and speed that are characteristic of Zardoya-OTIS, a world leader today in the manufacture of state-of-the-art lifts.
Continuous relations with our customers in the automotive industry has brought us to the forefront as we adapt production and management to the standards of European manufacturers: Volkswagen, Renault, Fiat, Seat, etc.
We produced rubber-metal parts, engine mounts and ventilation systems for models such as the Renault 12, Renault 18, IVECO Pegaso, and for the Continental Group, and we incorporated vulcanisation injection processes with orders for small parts in mass production series.
The need to develop non-toxic chemical formulas for alimentary use led to investment in laboratory equipment, methods of control, etc. The services provided to these new sectors represented the first steps toward setting up the R+D department at MGN.
The incorporation of colour
The slot-machine industry saw great success and manufacturers began producing them in Spain. Rubber was an ideal element to absorb the blows of the solid-steel balls, and we developed new, more technical formulations for this.
To supply this market, our production processes had to include strict hygiene conditions, more specialised personnel and more demanding requirements. These conditions, and our orientation toward the customer and the market, continue to be hallmarks of the company's identity.
One of the first lifts was installed in the chambers of Louis XV, which he used to sneak in his lover, the Duchess of Châteauroux.
Otis was the first company to manufacture lifts. Zardoya Otis was the first vertical-transport company on the Iberian market, with annual turnover of EUR665 million. We have been working with the company since the 1970s.
